Developed in Japan by Dr Teruo Higa in the early 80's, Bokashi is a fantastic pre-composting method to divert all food waste away from landfill. Unlike regular composting which is aerobic, Bokashi is an anaerobic method which relies on certain strains of bacteria which don't require oxygen to thrive.
The Bokashi Bin ferments food as it's added, rapidly converting it thanks to the Bokashi Bran it comes with, which contains molasses infused with micro-organisms. After a couple of weeks you can transport the treated waste to your compost bin or dig it straight into the ground where it will rapidly break down into nutrient-rich compost.
